Press ReleaseBritish engineers and innovators have created some of the world's best-loved design classics. But while icons like the Mini and the Dyson vacuum cleaner have both made their marks, British-built products are becoming something of a rarity. Which is why, when it comes to sideloaders, there's one company which is still extremely proud of its British heritage. Specialised Sideloader Products Ltd (SSP), is the smallest of the only two diesel sideloader manufacturers left in the UK. New managing director Paul Hull admits that maintaining high quality products in face of competition from cheaper imports is not easy. But then, SSP is no ordinary company. "We refuse to compromise the quality of our products against the imported competition," says Mr Hull, a fact that is backed by the company's continuing ISO 9001-2000 certification. This is testimony to SSP's manufacturing standards which operate at the highest level. Since SSP's launch in April 2003, Mr Hull has taken the company in a new direction, concentrating on custom-designed sideloaders, as well as the top quality standard trucks SSP is already well known for. As well as supply of spare parts and service support, SSP still maintains its policy of using 100% UK-sourced components giving excellent parts and product support - important to ensure the smooth running of its British built product. The new FT range of diesel and gas powered sideloaders is a result of five years development, incorporating a standard six-ton constructed chassis, de rated to five and four tons. The simple and highly efficient, full hydrostatic transmission system has been proven over 18 years. With one transmission pump and two hydrostatic wheel motors, this gives the flexibility of wider platform options, compared with limited options for manufacturers with axles incorporated. The FT range also incorporates a triple brake system, giving all-round safety. The heavy duty steer axle incorporates seven ton specification, with taper king pins and bearings for low maintenance and long service life. There are also new emission-certified engines for 2004 compliance, proven over the last three years to be efficient, clean, quiet and powerful, with a turbo charger fitted as standard. The current SSP range includes standard diesel and gas-powered sideloaders from 3.30 tons, as well multidirectional sideloaders in diesel, gas and electric powered.
